 Trap 2 name change and single

Trap 2 have changed their name for 2006. 
 
The baggy revivalists are now known as Little Ze, and will be playing a small string of dates next month, including The Plug on 4th February, and Boardwalk on 23rd Feb. 
 
The band also have a new single out in the Spring, called 'Tin Pigs', and will be touring properly in March.

 Disarm to tour

Disarm are about to tour, including a stint supporting Canadian glamsters Robin Black. 
 
The Mexborough rockers will be playing 33 gigs in little over two months, including their first Sheffield gigs for six months - at The Howard on 6th Feb, and The Grapes on March 10th. 
 
In April they join up with Robin Black, on a tour that culminates at Camden Underworld.

 Black Swan Presents

A new night, Black Swan Presents, starts at the Boardwalk on the 31st January. 
 
The night, named after both the Boardwalk's former name and Lee "Scratch" Perry's record label, will feature live music from Lee McMahon, Avangaad, and Tim Pare, who is probably better known live as Buugsy. Mr Modo's Hi-Fi will spin roots rock reggae between acts. 


 Nine More Lies video/demo launch

Nine More Lies are launching their EP with a series of experimental videos, at the Grapes tonight. 
 
The event will see the band play live, accompanied by films that range from "the sublime to the ridiculous, from the profound to the pretentious". 
 
Support comes from Volcanoes and The Seizure, and there's free demos for all, and free beer for earlybirds.

 All Things Electric returns tonight

All Things Electric make a return to the Earl tonight (Sat 21st). 
 
The usual electronic disc spinners, featuring Dynamo DJ's, Jim Electric, Bozz and Gareth, will also feature guest DJ Tiphaine, and live music from Rumpus, Carol Anne Show Band, Holy Fools and The Upstarts. 
 
It's £4 and goes on til 2.

 Offbeat returns for the new year

The first Offbeat night of the new year start on the 3rd February. 
 
The first one - the indie night's 9th birthday - will be in the University's Foyer, before it moves back to the newly extended Raynor Lounge on 17th Feb. Special events throughout March include specials devoted to Pulp and The Pixies.

 Monkey Swallows The Universe album out soon

The debut album by Sheffield duo Monkey Swallows The Universe is out next month. 
 
'The Bright Carvings' is released on the 20th February through Thee SPC. I've heard a copy, and it's fantastic. 
 
For those who can't wait, the band have two tracks available as a free, download-only single. 'Sheffield Shanty' and 'Jimmy Down The Well' can be downloaded here [link] or here [link]
 
The band can also be seen at the Grapes on the 2nd of February, with Louis Romegoux and James Severly.

 Soundaloud Awards '06

L2SB's "rivals" Soundaloud are once again collecting nominations for their annual awards ceremony. 
 
The website, masterminded by Paul Cooper, awarded the great and good of the city's scene at a lavish ceremony at The Forum last year, gongs going to Rumpus, Long Blondes, Screaming Mimi, Kings Have Long Arms, Tegi Roberts and many others.

 Arctics conquer Amazon

Although not available for another five weeks, the Arctic Monkey's debut album is already the current top-selling CD on Amazon.co.uk. 
 
The band's "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" isn't released until January 30th, but the album is already the best selling CD on the popular web store.

Arctic Monkeys have revealed the title of their forthcoming long player as 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' [link]
 
The album will be released on January 30th next year.
