 Arctics break chart records
By: Matt... January 30, 2006 4:01pm
Arctic Monkeys have made chart history by selling 360,000 copies of their debut album in its first week.

"Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" has topped the UK album charts to become the fastest selling debut of all time, selling over 50,000 more than Hear'Says' "Popstars", the previous title holder.

Shifting an astonishing 118,000 copies in its first day, the album made it to number five in NME's top 100 British albums, despite being unreleased at the time the chart was compiled.

The band, who also celebrated their second number one single last week with "When The Sun Goes Down", are already being compared to Oasis and even the Beatles for their atmospheric rise to fame.

 Arctics number one... again
By: Pete... January 22, 2006 7:01pm
As if this is news to anyone, but Arctic Monkeys are at number one again in the official UK charts with their new single 'When The Sun Goes Down'.

The single saw of competition from Will Young, Beyonce and long-dead rapper Notorious BIG. It makes the Arctics the first ever Sheffield act to have more than one number one single.

Their album, 'Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', is released tomorrow, and, if pre-orders are anything to go on, may be the fastest selling rock debut of all time.

Meanwhile, you can check out the band's, um, interesting rendition of Girls Aloud's 'Love Machine', which was recorded on Jo Wiley's Radio 1 show last week, on their MySpace site. [link].

Two tracks from the new album can be found on their MySpace site [link], and you catch the band making their Sheffield live return at DnR Live on the 17th February.
